It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Roland Dwight Williams, known affectionally to all as Pastor Williams, on October 12, 2024. Born in Asheboro, NC, on August 9, 1953, Pastor Williams was a beacon of compassion, love, and faith in his community of New Bern, North Carolina. A humble man of deep conviction, he dedicated his life to serving others through his ministry.
Pastor Williams was not only a cherished husband, father, “PaPa” and brother, but also a thoughtful and beloved pastor who touched countless lives. His journey in ministry began at Faith Baptist Church in Trenton, NC, where he served as their pastor for 5 years. His steadfast dedication to his ministry led him to serve as Associate Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church for 42 years, before assuming the role of Senior Pastor in 2021. He faithfully served at Calvary Baptist Church School, both as a Bible teacher and a favorite chapel speaker. His influence reached even further as a longstanding board member of World Wide New Testament Baptist Missions. Pastor Williams was known for his devotion to studying his Bible, praying for his church family and community, visiting the sick, and being a constant source of comfort and encouragement to all.
Pastor Williams’ love for his family was as profound as his faith. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Peggy, their loving children Rachel (Robert) Tucker, John (Tiffany) Williams, and Stephen (Heather) Williams. He also leaves behind his caring brother Jerry (Sandra) Williams, his beloved grandchildren, Madison Williams, Jack Tucker, Ethan Tucker, Aidan Williams, Claire Tucker, and Lexi Rae Williams, and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Roland and Mary Ruth (Purvis) Williams.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am-1:00pm on Tuesday, October 15 at Calvary Baptist Church, followed by the funeral service at 1:00pm. He will be laid to rest at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
The Williams’ Family would like to express their gratitude to the Calvary Baptist Church family for all their visits, calls, texts, cards, and meals.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pastor Williams’ name to Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1089, New Bern, NC 28563.
